Face jades


A silk veil is placed over the face. The features of the face are covered with specifically shaped jade plaques.

Eye plaques, like these from a later period, would have been placed over the eyes of the corpse in the tomb.

Later, during the Han dynasty, jade cicadas were placed in the corpse's mouth. Cicadas were a symbol of resurrection.

It also became popular to make entire suits of jade to wear in the tomb.
