Only the very wealthy could afford bronze or jade. Poorer people were often buried with pottery, if anything at all. These pottery vessels were often copies of more expensive bronze vessels.

The servant's pot is a copy of a bronze ding. Dings were three legged vessels with a round body. They were used to serve cooked food at ancestor rituals.
